The Giant Problems With The Giant 2021 Statue (Pt. 1)

First off, I would like to start off with a video that, I believe, will better set the tone of today’s blog post.

So, what did you all think of the above video?

Interesting, isn’t it?

But Is There A Problem?

As cool as this upcoming tourist attraction seems to be, should we Christians be concerned? Are there any spiritual dangers lurking behind these 2021 Giant Statues?

In today’s blog post, let’s look into the Bible’s perspective on these questions!

Let’s dive in!

Problem #1: Uplifting The Human

In one part of the video, Eric Fraad (the director of development for this Giant 2021 Statue project) talked about how one of the purposes of this statue is “to celebrate humanity.”

Now, if we were to look at this statement through a Biblical lens, is there a problem?

YES!

Check out what Jeremiah 9:23-24 has to say about the idea of celebrating humanity:

Thus says the Lord:

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,

Let not the mighty man glory in his might,

Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

24 But let him who glories glory in this,

That he understands and knows Me,

That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.

For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

(JEREMIAH 9:23-24)

Yet, in stark contrast to this gem of Bible truth, the 2021 Giant Statues are glorying in the wisdom, might, and riches of the people of this world!

Are there any other spiritual dangers with these newly upcoming Giant Statues that we Christians need to be cautious about?

Problem #2: Exalting Self

In another part of the video, it showed how this Giant 2021 Sculpture gives you the opportunity to have a selfie of yourself displayed on the Giant Statue!

Now, looking at THIS through a Biblical lens, is there any problem with having a GIANT selfie of yourself for everyone to see?

Well, first, let’s check out what John the Baptist had to say about this:

He [Jesus] must increase, but I must decrease.

(John 3:30)

Secondly, what does Jesus have to say about this? In Matthew 16:24, we read:

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

(Matthew 16:24)

Lastly, check out what Psalms 21 says about who we SHOULD exalt and uplift:

Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength!

We will sing and praise Your power.

(Psalms 21:13)

Giant Idolatry

Friends, I believe that this newly upcoming 2021 Giant Statue is just a more GIANT piece of evidence that idolatry in our modern world is getting much more worst than ever.

Idolizing the people of this world and even our own selves have NO PLACE in the Christian life!

In fact, the Bible COUNSELS us “to abstain from things polluted by idols” (Acts 15:20).

And, friends, to be honest, this 2021 Giant Statue has the pollutions of idolatry plastered all over it!

But, at the same time, it doesn’t take a ten-floor, giant statue to know you have an idol in your life.

So, how can you know whether or not you are committing idolatry?

Well, to conclude this blog post, I would like to offer you a FREE printable that will walk you through the 3 signs of idolatry!

Download it below!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this blog post, where we’ll look into two more problems with this 2021 Giant Statue based on two Bible verses from the book of Habakkuk! (UPDATE: You can now read Part 2 by clicking HERE)

Amen! Maranatha!
