Letters From My Heart Series

Letters From My Heart {Pt. 6: Cordelia}

Just a quick note about this new series. The addressees in the “letters” do exist in real life. However, their names have been changed for privacy reasons. Also, certain dynamics of the situations that I address in certain “letters” have also been changed to protect their identities and reputations.
It’s my hope and prayer that, as you read each “letter” in this 10 part series, you’ll gain some blessing and encouragement from each “letter”, and that the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart as you read. Thank you and God bless!

Dear Cordelia,

I know you have a great potential in serving God and being mighty instrument in His hands. I’m sure that, with the many talents He had given you, you could lead many to the cross.

But it breaks my heart to see that you’re not, Cordelia!

Cordelia, please don’t feel like I’m trying to condemn you. I’m writing this to you because I care about you and desire to point you to a better way than the way you’re walking in.

Cordelia, you live your life to please your worldly friends. You try to be like them, and try to blend in with the rest of the world. Yet, at church, you turn around and act like a pure saint.

I’ve seen how you act at school during the week and at church on Sabbath.

At school, when you’re around your friends, I overhear you talking about things that range from frivolous topics like nail polish trends to topics that are so inappropriate, it’s unbelievable they chose you to be one of the lead teachers for the teen girls discipleship group!

Your behavior honestly mirrors Christ’s words in the book of Matthew:

These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.

(Matthew 15:8)

At church, you really pour your heart and soul into teaching the teen girls discipleship group and leading out in song service every Youth Sabbath. On the outside, you truly draw near to God.

But based on Luke 6:35, your heart is quite honestly far from Him:

For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

(Luke 6:35)

But don’t feel angry or discouraged, Cordelia! Believe me, I too also struggle with talking about things that are frivolous or downright sinful.

And that’s the whole reason why Jesus came to our world!

When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

(Mark 2:17)

I’m writing this letter to you so you can be aware of your sickness, and go to Jesus. He is more than happy and more than willing to forgive you, to cure you, and to strengthen you to not go back and stumble into sinful conversing again.

I’d like to close this letter with a couple beautiful and encouraging Bible promises you may claim and ask God to help you fulfill:

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

(James 4:7-10)

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

(Ezekiel 36:26)
