Soul Care Kit

Self-care has hugely skyrocketed like crazy in recent years.

But for us as Christians, should we allow ourselves to get into this growing self-care movement?

If yes, then how can we reconcile that with Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:24?

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

(Matthew 16:24, emphasis added)

And what about Paul’s own counsel in 2 Timothy chapter 3?

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves……And from such people turn away!

(2 Timothy 3:1,2,5)

And last, but certainly not least, what about this deeply-convicting statement from Ellen White?

Nothing saps spirituality from the soul more quickly than to enclose it in selfishness and self-caring.

(Evangelism pg. 357, emphasis added)

Obviously, this whole trendy movement of self-care may not be the best thing for Christians to amalgamate themselves into.

But in that case, what should a Bible-believing Christian do as a more Biblical alternative to self-care?
