Let’s continue on to part 3 of our series on how to cultivate a true Christian heart.
As we covered in part 2, one of the first key steps to cultivating a true Christian heart is to let Jesus come in and recreate and reconstruct a new heart in us.
But what is the next step after that?
Something To Eat
Allow me to illustrate the second key step to living a true Christian life by using the story of Jesus resurrecting Jairus’ daughter in Mark 5:38-43, which says:
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
(Mark 5:38-43)
Notice that right after Jesus revives Jairus’ daughter, He commands the parents to GIVE her something to EAT.
How does this apply to the second step to cultivating a true Christian heart?
Keeping It Alive
Jesus said in Matthew 4:4–
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
(Matthew 4:4)
Right after Jesus “revives” in us His new heart, we need to then “maintain” that new heart by feeding it the bread of God’s Word (the Bible).
It reminds me of the last part of Psalms 104:15–
.……..bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.
(Psalm 104:15C)
We first and foremost need to feed our newly revived hearts with the living bread of God’s Word in order to stay spiritually strong and healthy as true Christians.
If you’re wondering where to start in Bible-reading, then I recommend maybe going over Bible books like John and/or Psalms ?.
A Prayer
Dear friend, feeding our renewed hearts with the living bread of God’s Word is VITAL to maintaining an authentic Christian life.
If you truly desire to begin reading the Bible for your personal cultivation of a true Christian heart, then I wanna encourage you to pray:
Amen! Maranatha!
