I would like to start off this blog post with several Bible verses:
And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
(Acts 9:17-18)
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
(Ephesians 1:17-18)
What lesson can we learn from these Bible verses?
Well, I believe we can find the answer to that question by first going to my bedroom window!
Yes, you read that correctly.
My bedroom window can easily help us figure out what lesson we can learn from Acts 9:17-18 and Ephesians 1:17-18.
My Bedroom Window
So, below is a photo of my bedroom window.
I remember one time as I was drawing apart my bedroom window curtains, I saw something that I don’t ever recall seeing before.
It was a dirt stain!
When I saw that, I realized that this whole time my eyes were so much on the beautiful blue sky outside my window, I never realized the spotty dirt stain on the window glass!
How does this connect with Ephesians 1:17-18 and Acts 9:17-18?
Well, maybe my backyard can help us better the connection!
Yes, you read that correctly.
My backyard can help us better understand the connection between Acts 9:17-18, Ephesians 1:17-18, and my bedroom window!
My Backyard
One time we were having some pretty windy weather in our California town.
It was so windy, in fact, that there was a mess of leaves in the backyard afterwards!
And yet, despite the mess on the ground, the sky was so clear, clean, and beautiful.
The Lesson
Have you figured out the lesson behind Acts 9:17-18 and Ephesians 1:17-18 in relation to my bedroom window and backyard?
If not, that’s okay, I’ll tell you what it is.
Just like the Holy Spirit removed the scales from Saul’s eyes so he was able to see, so the Holy Spirit removes the spiritual scales from our eyes and “enlightens” them to see and understand.
And my bedroom window plus my backyard reveal the reason why this lesson is important.
Because it’s so easy for our human, carnal eyes to focus on the dirt stains of the windows of our lives rather than the big blue sky of God’s goodness!
It’s easy for our fleshly, natural eyes to focus on the dead leaves on the “backyard ground” of our circumstances rather than the big beautiful sky of God’s blessings!
We need the Holy Spirit to remove the scales of complaining, anger, sadness, and negativity and enlighten our eyes to look up at the skyful of God’s love above us!
A Perspective Prayer
Dear reader, would you like the Lord to send His Holy Spirit to heal your focus and strengthen your eyes to look up at His love rather than looking down on all that’s dead and dirty?
Then I wanna encourage you to just pray:
Amen! Maranatha!
