This poem prayer was inspired by a Bible verse I read several weeks ago in my evening devotions. The Bible verse was Isaiah 64:6. The first two phrases of this verse are fairly well-known and frequently quoted from many Christian pulpits. However, the last three phrases of Isaiah 64:6 were what really struck my heart and mind with deep inspiration to write the poem prayer below.
Hope you’ll be blessed as you read it below!
Dear God of sky and sea,
I must admit it’s hard to believe,
That I am just a leaf.
Many say I’m to be a rock–
Solid and grand,
Mighty and tough.
Others think I’m a flower–
Innocent and pretty,
Blooming every hour.
Yet, Heavenly Father, the Bible tells
me–
That, in my sinful condition,
I’m just a leaf.
A leaf crumpled and torn–
By the gusty winds of sin.
My only hope is in Christ’s blood
To cleanse me from within.
So, although I’m neither a rock nor a
flower,
I’m still happy to know I’m just a leaf–
Because I see my need of Thy Holy Spirit power!
Amen!
But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
Have taken us away.
(Isaiah 64:6)
