The Cozy Beauty of What The Holy Spirit Does For Us (Pt. 2: Rest & Guidance)

Continuing onto part 2 of our series of exploring the warm, wonderful things that the Holy Spirit does for us, let’s now look into the two aspects of the Holy Spirit’s ministry for us as God’s people.

If you weren’t able to read part 1, then you may catch up by going HERE.

Now let’s dive in by taking a look at Isaiah 63:14–

As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

(Isaiah 63:14)

What does that mean?

Two Aspects

When we start unpacking this verse, we see two key aspects of what the Holy Spirit does for us.

  1. The Holy Spirit “causes” us “to rest.”
  2. The Holy Spirit leads us as His people.

Let’s dig into what the first aspect means.

Rest

The words “cause to rest” in this verse means “give rest, make quiet, give comfort.”

Based on this definition, the Holy Spirit is the “vehicle,” or the “carrier” Who “delivers” the rest, quietness, and comfort that our Christian hearts seek when we pray to the Lord for these specific gifts.

This also connects to Matthew 11:28 where Jesus said:

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

(Matthew 11:28)

How does Jesus give us His rest?

As we saw earlier, it is given to us through the power and by the living vessel of the Holy Spirit!

Guidance

Going back to Isaiah 63:14, it also says:

….so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

(Isaiah 63:14B)

Here we see the second aspect of what the Holy Spirit does for us.

He also LEADS us or GUIDES us.

The Hebrew word for “lead” in Isaiah 63:14 means “drive; go along the road, keep to the road.”

The Holy Spirit leads us and guides us through the roads of to truth, and leads us continually in truth.

The Bible assures us of this in John 16:13, which says:

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

(John 16:13)

A Prayer

Dear reader, would you like the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with His rest and guide your feet to His truth?

Then I wanna encourage you to pray:

Amen! Maranatha!
