3 Powerful Bible Promises To Claim For A Dying Church

To start off this Abundant Living Tips post, I’d like to open up with a simple yet important quote from Jim Cymbala.

“Prayer begets Revival, which begets more prayer.”

-Jim cymbala-

Based on this quote, if we Christians long for revival among our dying churches, we need to start with prayer.

But if that’s the case, then HOW do we begin praying for revival?

Well, for today’s blog post, I’d like to share with you 3 Bible verses you can claim on behalf of any dying church you feel burdened to see spiritually revived.

1. Ezekiel 37:12-14

Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 13 Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. 14 I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord.’ ”

(Ezekiel 37:12-14)

Personal Thoughts: These are some of the most powerful Bible promises to claim for church-wide revival! If you were to take a closer look at these verses, it is GOD Who is BREATHING His Spirit into the dead graves of His people.

The Holy Spirit is a KEY COMPONENT to effective revival–NOT our own human plans or ideas. Only the Holy Spirit can trigger true, lasting revival.

It’s like how Zechariah put it in Zechariah 4:6–

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’

Says the Lord of hosts.

(Zechariah 4:6)

2. Isaiah 44:3-5

For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,

And floods on the dry ground;

I will pour My Spirit on your descendants,

And My blessing on your offspring;

They will spring up among the grass

Like willows by the watercourses.’

One will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’;

Another will call himself by the name of Jacob;

Another will write with his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’

And name himself by the name of Israel.

(Isaiah 44:3-5)

Personal Thoughts: This second Bible promise just harps back on what was shared for the first Bible promise in this blog post. Again, only the Holy Spirit can bring about revival.

Our part is to pray and claim Bible promises like Isaiah 44:3-5, so the Holy Spirit can be poured out and nourish the dying churches we’re praying for.

3. Acts 9:17-18

And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.

(Acts 9:17-18)

Personal Thoughts: Just like the Holy Spirit removed the physical scales from Saul’s eyes, we are to also pray and ask the Lord for His Spirit to remove whatever scales is preventing the members of a dying church from SEEING the need for true revival. Again, we see the importance of the Holy Spirit and His key role in bringing about authentic revival.

A Prayer For Revival

Dear reader, if you desire to claim these three Bible promises on behalf of a dying church you feel burdened for, I wanna encourage you to pray the following prayer below:

Let us return to the basic things of the Word of God and prayer and soul winning and revival. Let us pray, “O God, send a revival. Let it begin in me.”

-Lee Robinson-

Based on this quote, revival not only begins with prayer, but it also begins with us individually!
