One Friday my mom was making a cake for church potluck, and after it finished baking, this is what it looked like:
When I saw the bumps on the cake, I honestly thought they made the cake look not really appetizing. But, when Mom spread the frosting onto the bumpy cake, the unappetizing bumps were gone.
Frosted Fakes
In a way, for us as Christians, we too can be like that bumpy cake.
Each of us have unappetizing bumps in our characters and in our hearts. But instead of going to Jesus to help take out these bumps, we cover them with “frosting.”
A frosting that is just a shallow, external “righteousness.” It’s the same kind of frosting the Pharisees had on, and that Jesus addressed in Luke chapter 11:
Such a frosting type of righteousness, a “frosting” attitude toward your bumps of sin, will likely make you vulnerable to become a fake Christian.
Let Jesus Deal with Your Bumps!
Instead of hiding your sinful bumps behind a frosting of fake, sugary goodness, I wanna encourage you, dear reader, to go to Jesus and let Him smooth out your bumpy heart!
We have a beautiful promise in Psalm 62:8–
Expose the ugly bumps of sin in your heart to Christ, dear reader! He has PROMISED that He will never cast you out!
I assure you that He’ll be your refuge of hope and lovingly help smooth those bumps out within you!
A Prayer
Dear reader, do you want Jesus to help smooth out the bumps in your heart and in you character? Do you wish to stop wearing a fake frosting of self-righteousness upon your external life and embrace Jesus’ own righteousness?
If so, then I wanna appeal to you to simply pray the following prayer below:
I’d like to conclude this blog post with a quote from Dave Hunt, that I believe will reinforce within each of our hearts the need to take away the sugary frosting of legalism and learn to seriously let Jesus deal with the sinful bumps within us.
Let’s let God’s grace take care of the bumps in our lives and not cover them with anymore frosting!
Amen! Maranatha!
