Just a quick note about this new series. The addressees in the “letters” do exist in real life. However, their names have been changed for privacy reasons. Also, certain dynamics of the situations that I address in certain “letters” have also been changed to protect their identities and reputations.
It’s my hope and prayer that, as you read each “letter” in this 10 part series, you’ll gain some blessing and encouragement from each “letter”, and that the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart as you read. Thank you and God bless!
Dear Leo,
I know and understand if you try to ignore this letter. But I wanna appeal to you to not ignore the warning God is trying to give you right now.
Leo, you know that God is a God of love, and that He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but rather to come to Him with a repentant heart.
…..God is love.
(1 John 4:8)
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
(2 peter 3:9)
Because of His great love, patience, and mercy, God desires us to turn from our evil ways and come to Him for true rest from the harassments of sin!
Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
(Ezekiel 33:11)
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
(Matthew 11:28-29)
This is God’s call to you, Leo! He is calling you to turn from the icy confinements of religious formalism and embrace the abundant life He has for you!
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
(John 10:10)
I know how easy it is to stay within the frozen rigidness of empty Christianity.
I know how easy it is to just keep going through the motions of going to church every week.
I know how easy it is to ignore that higher calling God has for us as Christians.
But Leo, this is the whole reason why I’m writing this letter to you. I wanna encourage you to see that there’s more to Christianity than just sitting in a church pew every Sabbath.
Please consider these Bible verses:
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you…
(2 Timothy 1:6)
who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began
(2 timothy 1:9)
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
(1 peter 2:9)
to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
(acts 26:18)
Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
(isaiah 60:1-3)
You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,
And called from its farthest regions,
And said to you,
‘You are My servant,
I have chosen you and have not cast you away
(Isaiah 41:9)
And I have put My words in your mouth; I have covered you with the shadow of My hand, That I may plant the heavens, Lay the foundations of the earth, And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’ ”
(isaiah 51:16)
These seven verses are God’s call to you, Leo! He wants you to live out a life that will light the way for those in the world to find Jesus!
Being a Christian isn’t just a boring round of weekly church attendance. Christianity is never about sitting in a pew.
God called us for MORE than that! He didn’t save us just so we can sit around and do nothing!
God saved us because He LOVES us! And in turn, we are to spread that love to others!
This is the reason why, again, I’m writing this letter to you, Leo. I want to appeal to you to see and realize that you don’t have to sit around in your cold, apathetic state as a Christian. You can come to Jesus right now and He’ll heal you from your icy spiritual indifference.
In fact, here’s a wonderful promise just from God to you, Leo! Here in this Bible verse, Christ promises to heal your spiritual apathy and melt away the icy indifference in your heart against Him and His calling on your life to serve Him:
But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
(Malachi 4:2)
Just like the sun melts an ice cube, so the “Sun of Righteousness”–Jesus Christ–is able to melt the cold ice cube of spiritual apathy you’re in, Leo.
Your only hope is in Him.
He is calling you now. He is more than happy to heal you and melt away your cold apathy.
Go to Him, Leo. His arms are open, ready to accept anyone desiring forgiveness, cleansing, and healing.
It’s my prayer you’ll go to Jesus, and find that true rest which He alone can give.
