Poured Out: To Be Who He Wants Us To Be

Early one morning I was making my hot water. When I was done, I realized that the water was too hot.

So, I dumped out some of the water and filled it with regular water.

But when I took a sip, the water just felt lukewarm.

So I dumped out some of the water again, and filled my cup with some more of the hot water from our electric kettle.

But when I took another sip, it was (frustratingly again) too hot.

So guess what I did.

I dumped all of the water down the sink and refilled it again with both the regular and hot water.

And amazingly, after I did that, the water was just at the perfect temperature I wanted to drink it in.

A LESSON

What spiritual object lesson can we learn from this as Christians?

Jeremiah 1:10 says:

See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

-Jeremiah 1:10

And Hosea 10:12 says:

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

-Hosea 10:12

In the same way I had to literally POUR OUT the original water in my cup in order to finally get the water that I wanted, so it is that God calls us to POUR OUT, to ROOT OUT, and to BREAK UP the sins in our hearts so we ourselves may become the Christians He wants us to be.

It reminds me of how Jesus put it in Matthew 5:29–

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

-Matthew 5:29
