The Real Root of Sin

For today’s blog post, I’d like to share with you all something that God taught me recently during my devotional time.

In Proverbs 11:5, we read:

….The wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

(Proverbs 11:5)

What does that mean?

A Look At Two Words

There’s two words that stood out to me from this verse that I’d like to highlight.

  • Fall
  • Wickedness

When I saw that word “fall,” the Holy Spirit reminded me of what Paul wrote in Romans 3:23, which says:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

(Romans 3:23)

And for the word “wickedness,” the Holy Spirit brought Jeremiah 17:9 to my mind.

In Jeremiah 17:9 we read:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

(Jeremiah 17:9)

What’s The Application?

Well, as I was personally meditating and studying more over this, the Holy Spirit led me to this application:

The root of all sin in humanity is our own wicked heart.

Our wicked hearts breathe sin, thrive in sin, and love sin.

It it is because of our hearts we fall into sin.

And for us as modern Christians, we need to lay down—by our own individual choice—our wicked hearts on the altar of surrender and ASK & SEEK for a new heart that breathes, thrives in, and loves the Holy Spirit & God’s righteousness!

We have a promise that such IS possible in Ezekiel 36:26–

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

(Ezekiel 36:26)

Amen! Maranatha!
