It was 5:16 AM when I woke up one day in November.
As I was walking down the hallway to go use the restroom, I saw a bright bluish light shining in the darkness of the kitchen.
It was a cell phone screen shining brightly on the kitchen counter.
I couldn’t believe how something so small and commonplace could become powerfully bright in a place as dark as the kitchen at 5 in the morning!
What object lesson can we as Christians glean from this small but bright cell phone light that I saw that early morning?
Let It Shine…
Jesus gives us a key answer to that question in Matthew 5:16–
Oftentimes we as Christians look at verses like this and wonder if our Christian witness is shining bright enough.
For those of us who are shy, we may feel discouraged by verses like this, because “shining our light” is always associated with talking or preaching to people about Bible truth.
And for the average shy Christian, such a thing is seen as a nightmare.
BUT I believe the little cell phone light I saw in the kitchen that morning could give us as shy Christians–or those of us who feel like we’re not shining bright enough–a lesson of encouraging hope!
…Even If It’s Small
If I were to see that cell phone light shining at, say, 2 PM in the afternoon, I would’ve hardly noticed.
But at 5 AM in the morning, that was a different story.
And for us Christians, the same thing applies to us as well.
During the spiritual “afternoon,” people may not notice our humble, cell phone light witness.
But when deep darkness comes in, people WILL notice!
So, for us Christians, regardless of how small and dim our Christian “lights” appear, we could learn a key lesson from the cell phone light.
To KEEP SHINING, no matter how small and unnoticeable our Christian witness may be.
Why?
Because you’ll never know if your small “cell phone light” witness will become a bright light in the darkness of a sin-sick soul.
A Prayer
Dear reader, if you’re honestly struggling to accept the humble cell phone light God has given you, then I wanna encourage you to just pray:
Amen! Maranatha!
Amen!
Thanks again for your prayers! ?????
???
This was very encouraging!
I’m 12 years old and have been asked to give a sermonette at my church next month for Pathfinders.
At first, I was kinda frightened, because I don’t like public speaking and I’ll have to do it for at least 10 minutes.
But after reading this, even though I’m still a bit nervous, I’m assured that God will help me to do this sermonette well. ???
Thank you!
Praise the Lord! JoyBaker ?! God will give you the strength and courage to speak. I can totally relate….there’s a Bible promise that I always find encouraging whenever I’m about to speak and record for my podcast. I hope it’ll be of encouragement to you: “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me, his word was on my tongue.” (2 Samuel 23:2). Will keep you in prayer, sister, that the Holy Spirit will speak His words through you for your sermonette ???!
Blessings,
Aleah
