Why We Should Hold Our Peace

In 1 Samuel 10:27, we learn a very valuable lesson from Saul.

In verses 24 and 26, it seems like ALL of Israel is thankful for Saul being chosen to be their new king.

But verse 27 reveals that such wasn’t EXACTLY the case:

But some rebels said, “How can this man save us?” So they despised him, and brought him no presents……..

(1 Samuel 10:27a)

Yet, check out how the new King Saul reacted to these rebels’ criticism against him:

But he held his peace.

(1 Samuel 10:27b)

How does this apply to us?

The Reason For Silence

The NIV translates the above verse this way:

But Saul kept silent.

(1 Samuel 10:27b NIV)

Why was King Saul silent? Why didn’t he exercise his newly-received kingly authority to execute those mean critics of his?

And, most importantly, what can we learn from this?

Well, I believe this key Bible verse in Exodus 14:14 holds the key reason why Saul might’ve not reacted to what those rebels said against him.

In Exodus 14:14, it says:

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

(Exodus 14:14)

Application & Prayer

Saul knew that GOD ALONE would fight for him no matter what people said against him.

It’s the same thing for us!

When people choose to criticize us, belittle us, scorn us, and despise us, we are to “hold [our] peace,” we are to “keep silent.” Because, at the end of the day, it will be The Lord who will fight for us!

HE will stand up and defend us–if we choose to hold our peace and let Him fight on our behalf!

Would you like to allow God to fight and defend you today, dear reader?

If so, then I wanna encourage you to pray:

I’d like to conclude this blog post with two Bible promises that you may claim along with the above prayer. This is what these two Bible promises say:

And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

(Luke 18:7)

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

(Isaiah 53:7)

Amen! Maranatha!
