Letters From My Heart Series

Letters From My Heart { Pt. 3: Rona}

Just a quick note about this new series. The addressees in the “letters” do exist in real life. However, their names have been changed for privacy reasons. Also, certain dynamics of the situations that I address in certain “letters” have also been changed to protect their identities and reputations.
It’s my hope and prayer that, as you read each “letter” in this 10 part series, you’ll gain some blessing and encouragement from each “letter”, and that the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart as you read. Thank you and God bless!

Dear Rona,

I’m sorry to hear about your struggle with cocaine.

I know and understand that your background and your parents’ decisions have led you to this unfortunate circumstance.

But there’s HOPE for your cocaine addiction, dear Rona!

Jesus Himself said that He came to this world to save sin addicts like you and me!

When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
(Mark 2:17)

He came to SHOW US a better way!
He came to show YOU a better way!

In fact, in John 14:6, Jesus Himself stated that HE IS that “Better Way!”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
(John 14:6)

It is only in Jesus, my dear Rona, where you’ll find true victory over your cocaine addiction.

In 1 John 5:4, John writes:

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
(1 John 5:4)

You must have a trusting faith in Jesus that He’ll help you overcome your cocaine addiction.

This battle isn’t about you, Rona. Jesus Himself said in John 15:5–

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
(John 15:5)

And the Bible also says:

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.
(Exodus 14:14)

Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
(2 Chronicles 20:15)

Again, Rona, this battle you’re facing against your addiction is NOT to be done in your own strength! It is to be done in GOD’S STRENGTH!

This fight you’re facing must be surrendered to God that He may overcome your cocaine addiction FOR you and THROUGH you! This isn’t about you, Rona. This battle is about GOD.

Your part in this whole battle is to SURRENDER and to TRUST. Give God the wheel and LET HIM do the fighting for you. Put faithful trust in God to help you overcome this addiction.

Now, Rona, I’m sure you may be wondering:

HOW do I trust God, anyway?

Another word for “trust” is “faith.” And Paul writes this concerning faith (or trust):

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(Romans 10:17)

This modern translation helps make the full meaning sound a bit clearer:

The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to.
(Romans 10:17 MSG)

Rona, this doesn’t just mean simply listening to church sermons every Sabbath. In order to develop an authentic trusting faith in God to help you battle your cocaine addiction, you must PERSONALLY READ God’s Word FOR YOURSELF.

It’s like a statement I read one time:

“True freedom is found in a vital, growing relationship with the Lord Jesus”

–Lies young women BELIEVE pg. 190–

As you read and study God’s Word every day, and learn to develop a loving, trustful relationship with the One who PROMISED to give you victory, I can guarantee that you’ll soon be able to say no to cocaine.

Not because YOU did the overcoming.

But instead, you let JESUS overcome for you.

You’re in my prayers always!

Blessings,
Aleah R.
