Peace Salt

Recently, I got into Bible art journaling. I started to incorporate it into my morning and evening devotions.
My evening devotions especially! ?

Anyway, for today’s blog post, I just wanted to share a beautiful lesson I got from my evening devotions last night.

Arguing About Greatness

The disciples would argue about who was to be the greatest in Christ’s kingdom

In Mark chapter 9, the disciples were arguing and disputing about who will be “the greatest” (see verse 34). Dropping down to verse 50, Jesus tells the disciples the following:

Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

(Mark 9:50)

What does this verse mean? How does it apply to our lives in our 21st century world?

Well, I really like how this modern translation puts it:

Salt is excellent, but if it loses its saltiness, how will you season it? So have salt in yourselves — that is, be at peace with each other.

(Mark 9:50 CJB)

Salty Souls, Hearts, & Lives

When our hearts are seasoned with Christ’s peace, we will be happy!

Here in this verse, Christ is calling us to make our hearts, souls, and lives SALTY with PEACE! Not what the world thinks is peace. But JESUS’ peace!

I couldn’t help but think about my Bible art journal entry from last night about Mark 9:50!

My Bible Art Journal Entry on Mark 9:50

For the disciples, they were in a great lack of the “peace salt” Jesus wanted them to have because of their arguments over who’ll be greatest.

But what about us as Jesus’ modern day disciples? Do we also lack the salt of true peace in our hearts, souls, and lives? Among our friendships, relationships, and interactions?

A Prayer To Be Salty

Dear reader, if you feel convicted by the Holy Spirit about your desperate need for more peace salt in your life, then just pray:

I’d like to conclude this blog post with two things.

One is a promise that you may claim along with the above prayer:

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

(John 14:27)

The second thing that I wanna conclude this blog post with is one of my favorite hymns. As you listen to it below, it’s my hope and prayer that you’ll have a desire to become more “salty” with Jesus’ true and wonderful peace! ?

Amen! Marantha!
