Drawing Support

In Proverbs 16:7 we read:

When a man’s ways please the Lord,

He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

(Proverbs 16:7)

Hmmm….what does that mean?

Well, I like how the CEB Bible puts it:

When people draw favor from the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them.

(Proverbs 16:7 CEB, emphasis added)

What does that word “favor” mean?

Who Is Your Anchor?

That word “favor” in English etymology stems from the Latin word favorem. It means “good will, inclination, support.”

What can we learn from this?

Well, here’s one basic lesson we can take.

When we draw all our emotional, spiritual, social, mental, and even physical support from the Lord, we are “at peace” with our enemies.

Now, frankly, this may not mean that our enemies themselves will like us.

Rather, it could mean that we personally have peace in our own hearts toward our enemies, because we’re no longer looking to PEOPLE for our support; but instead we’re looking now to GOD for our support!

But, dear reader, have you made God and God alone to be your support?

Do you truly have the peace in your heart that comes from making the Rock Christ Jesus your Supportive Anchor?

A Prayer

Dear reader, if it’s your heart’s desire to make the Lord your primary support rather than people, and experience the peace that comes in finding all your support in Him alone, then I wanna humbly appeal to you to just pray:

I would like to conclude this blog post with two Bible promises you may claim and meditate on along with the above prayer:

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

(Psalm 118:8-9)

Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God:

(Psalm 146:3-5)

Amen! Maranatha!
