“Drink Ye All Of It” (Pt. 1: Blessings)

Matthew 26:27-28 says:

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

(Matthew 26:27-28)

The context of this verse is speaking of Jesus and His disciples at what’s known as “The Last Supper” during the time of Passover just before Jesus’ crucifixion.

Now, what does that part of Matthew 26:27 mean where Jesus said “drink ye all of it”?

Wouldn’t drinking half be enough?

Or how about 99% of it with only a few drops left in the cup?

Why did Jesus say to drink ALL of it?

Gave All

Romans 8:32 gives us the answer to that question. It says:

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

(Romans 8:32)

God has given us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3), including the Gift of Jesus His Son (John 3:16) and the precious atonement of His blood (Ephesians 2:13) as is symbolized by the wine cup we saw in Matthew 26:27.

And because of ALL these blessings, God wants us to drink ALL of it!

He wants us to have our hearts and souls to be joyfully drenched in ALL the blessings He has given us– from Christ’s death on the cross for our sins to the blessing of being alive today!

It makes me think of another verse in 1 Timothy 6:17–

……the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

(1 Timothy 6:17B)

The Key Matter

What is important to consider from this lesson is this:

Are we truly taking time to take in and drink in ALL the blessings God has given us?

Or, are we only taking in and drinking in only 50%, 30%, or maybe even 1% of those blessings, and complaining about everything else?

A Prayer

Dear reader, would you like the Lord to change your heart to become more willing to drink ALL the blessings He has given you and to be more truly thankful for them?

If so, then I wanna encourage you to just pray:

For our next blog post, we’ll be looking at ANOTHER application of Matthew 26:27! Stay tuned! ?

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

(Psalm 36:7-8)

Amen! Maranatha!
